Miss Catherine
Welcome! I'm Miss Catherine, founder of The Curious School! I'm glad you found my website. I hope to help enrich your family's learning and life!
As a child, my school experience was lack-lustre. It was a "good" school, but I was so bored! In my elementary school bungalow classroom, I remember the smell of pencil shavings, the light of the overhead projector, completing assignments, waiting in line, staring at the clock, and gazing out the window - dreaming of the wide world outside. I did not think sitting in a classroom was a great way to learn about the world. Many years later I am still of the same opinion. When I became a mommy, I wanted a different experience for my girls. Instead of endless classroom assignments, I wanted interest, curiosity and experience to lead their path of learning; and for the lessons they learned to hold deeper meaning in the context of their lives. After a great deal of my own learning and wayfiding, I started The Curious School so my daughters could have freedom, and friends! Now we learn with imagination, story, art, experience, journaling, and adventure in the beautiful, wide world. We nourish our sense of wonder, and we feel empowered to pursue our dreams.
I was born and raised in Sand Diego and have always loved living here. One of my favorite childhood memories is exploring trails with my parents and my brother. Running ahead, climbing trees, building forts, finding treasures. My favorite smell is salty sea air and coastal sage scrub - it reminds me of those times. I graduated from public school in San Diego, then attended college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for my bachelor's and The University of San Diego for my master's degree. I have a background in Architecture, Real Estate, Event Planning, and now Home Education. Exploring this beautiful city is my favorite way to enrich our learning. Finding our village along the way makes it even better! ♥
